Salvaging AI is an Initial Intervention for organisations with valuable AI-assisted software or operational systems whose development has outpaced their ability to understand, control, maintain, secure or safely evolve them.

Epistudious comes in to establish what actually exists, identify the important failure mechanisms, risks and unknowns, stabilise urgent problems where appropriate, and determine how the system should move forward.

    Understand

    Establish the ground truth.

    Determine what exists, how the important parts relate, what the system actually does, and where confidence or knowledge has been lost.

    Triage

    Separate what matters now from what can wait.

    Identify consequential failures, recurring failure mechanisms, risks, fragile dependencies and important unknowns.

    Stabilise

    Reduce immediate instability where the evidence and engagement scope support it.

    Contain or correct urgent problems where appropriate so recovery decisions can be made from a more controlled position.

    Define Recovery Path

    Decide what should happen next and in what order.

    Turn the evidence into component decisions, priorities and a controlled sequence for recovery.

Stabilisation is evidence- and scope-dependent. The Initial Intervention does not imply that every identified problem will be fixed during this stage.

Salvage rather than rewrite

Salvage what is sound. Make deliberate decisions about the rest.

AI-generated work is not automatically disposable. Some components may be perfectly sound. Others may need focused repair, replacement, redesign or more investigation. Salvaging AI exists partly to make those decisions from evidence rather than fear or assumption.

Evidence-backed decisions about significant components using Keep, Repair, Replace, Redesign or Investigate further, including stabilisation findings and actions where relevant.

Recovery path and handover

An ordered route for what should happen next, supported by practical technical material that another capable delivery team can use.

The Initial Intervention creates usable value even if Epistudious does no subsequent implementation work.

    Once the system is suitable for continued development, Epistudious may provide ongoing managed delivery where appropriate.

Continuation is optional. The client owns the outputs from the Initial Intervention and can use them with Epistudious or another capable team.
